A massive tank filled with molasses burst open in the city's North End, unleashing a wave of sticky sweetness that raged through the streets like a tsunami. The aftermath was tragic. Twenty-one people lost their lives, and many more sustained wounds. The flood also caused a great deal of destruction to property, leaving a trail of molasses carnage in its wake.
